Coastal Comedy Journal

About

Coastal Comedy Journal looks at humour shaped by life beside the sea. We explore how place, weather, character, tradition and comic craft affect what a story notices and how its jokes land.

What we cover

Our subject is coastal comedy in a broad sense: comic storytelling, familiar seaside situations, local character, recurring traditions and the craft of turning a setting into a source of humour. We are interested in how details such as a changing forecast or a well-known local routine can give a comic moment its shape. The coast is not one uniform setting, so we pay attention to differences rather than treating one seaside town as a stand-in for all the others.

Who it is for

The publication is for readers who enjoy comedy and want to notice more of how it works, as well as readers curious about the stories and habits associated with coastal places. No specialist knowledge is needed. We explain the terms we use and favour examples a reader can follow without needing insider access.

Our approach

We use a field-notebook perspective: attentive to specific details, measured in tone and interested in what a setting contributes. We distinguish interpretation from fact, avoid presenting a single comic tradition as universal, and aim to make each piece useful beyond a passing trend.
